How do you get unstuck?

As a child, I rebelled against routine, equating it with boredom and an unexciting life. Despite my resistance, I had routines, whether intentional or not—a common trait among humans. However, I’ve come to realize that intentional routines are key to success in various aspects of life, including exercise, finances, and parenting. Consistency, rather than sporadic efforts, drives progress.

To break free from feeling stuck, I’ve identified three essential strategies:

First, take the time to establish systems for important areas of life. For instance, Arturo goes to the gym at least three times a week while I enjoy daily walks. Planning and preparation ensure consistency and effectiveness, even if it sometimes feels monotonous.

Second, be willing to adjust and refine your systems as needed. Arturo and I regularly tweak our exercise schedules to better fit our routines. Adaptability is crucial for finding what works best for your circumstances.

Last, prioritize reasonableness over mere rationality when designing your systems. It’s easy to overcommit, but being kind to yourself and acknowledging your limitations is essential. For example, while a 5:30am workout may seem efficient, it’s not reasonable for me, and forcing it would lead to failure.

Implementing these strategies has been transformative for me. I’ve realized that creating systems in various areas, such as bedtime, budgeting, and family time, fosters progress and peace of mind. Remember, tweaking your systems as needed and being reasonable over rational will help you overcome obstacles and move forward when feeling stuck.
